Bob Hall Pier is the most popular surfing spot in the area and a general hang out or swim spot. This place can get ridiculously crowded during spring break. The pier seems to somehow create a good wave dynamic. Like most places on the Texas Gulf Beach a strong side shore wind will be preferred to get 'outside', beyond the breaks. There are two or three sandbars where the waves break, and you kinda have to get through all of them to catch the best waves. On a strong southeast wind you may as well forget getting outside - in which case good luck! Because of the sand bars a wave-weed fin would be perfect. Just something interesting - 3-6 foot bull sharks are routinely caught at the end of the pier, yet no reports of shark attack have ever occurred here.
